Drop It

step forward drop off
the edge ends here
you’ll never cross it
to fall is doom

you believe. it’s to scoff
deny what is dear
lest you’ll be unfit
we’ll ready your tomb

you’ll stay where you are
you are who you’re not
it’s not about you
you are who we’ve said

you shan’t vary far
you’ll put your neck in the knot
you try to go through
you’ll end up dead

About Scott Schoffstall

I'm a relatively new poet having started in earnest 11/2010. I have sought the authentic and am still on that quest. I've diverged from the norm yet always reached for the universal. My interests were always beyond the here and now. Beyond the taste, touch, smell, hear, see. Where the mind and the spirit transcend the physical. They say perception is reality. Is it? Are we truly all there is?

  1. I particularly love this stanza:

    “you’ll stay where you are
    you are who you’re not
    it’s not about you
    you are who we’ve said”

How true! You’ve touched upon our lack of control in asserting our identity in face of a society that NEEDS to give you an identity that isn’t intimidating or threatening to it.

  2. yes and the pendulum seems to be swinging towards the other extreme now and I’m afraid it’s going to be even less free than the prior swing but I will address that in a future post.
